Is it just me or does anyone else have different results when welding on a almost empty tank of argon? Reply:That's fairly typical of single stage regs. Single stage regs take the pressure down to working pressure in one step. To do this they have a large spring acting against a diaphragm. As the cylinder pressure drops, the output can vary because the relationship between the input and the spring is swinging to the extreme as you get to the end of the cylinder and there's not enough force counteracting the heavy spring any more. Two stage regs usually hold their settings better because the reg steps the pressure down to say 150 psi and then you regulate it down from there. Most economical low end regs are single stage regs. You give up the precision for a less expensive unit, and at some point they simply just don't work right when the cylinder gets super low..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:With my old regulator I would have to adjust pressure about every 10 minutes of welding when getting down towards the bottom end of a bottle.
Reply:I put a root and hot pass in at 150 psi the other day on a test piece that's gonna get shot, so I hope it doesn't affect it that much.
