I have a cargo carrier in the build process now and it is almost done.  I am missing the 2" Sq pipe that will be inserted in to the trucks receiver tube.  The place I get my metal sells everything in 20' lengths and all I need it 3'.  So I was wondering if it can be bought in just the 3' section like HF or Northern tool.If not I guess I can get a 20' piece and make something else out of the spare metal.  What gauge is the tube for best results?

Reply:dont mess with less than 1/4 inch wall..how much weight is on that cargo carrier?
Reply:It will be used for coolers or gas cans.  I wouldn't expect to have more than 500lbs on it.  It will be hooked to my F250.  I don't mind it being heavy due to the beefy stock because I want it to be stout and last along time.Size is 2' x 4'The angle iron is 2"x2" 11gauge.  The expanded metal is 3/4 #9 flatThe top rail it 1"x1" 11gaugeI will post up some pic's soon.
Reply:I know the Drawbar stock is rounded on the edges to make it easier to slide in and out but you may not need that specific material for this project- try some regular 2x2x1/4" stock and see how it fits. I imagine they have a Cut Off section where you may find a 3' piece. The Receiver stock is the Important/required material since it will not have a seam on the inside of the tubeEd Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge

Reply:Here is a pic of what I have so far.  The angle, expanded metal and top rail are not welded together yet.  They are 3 separate pieces for now.  Once I get the 2" tube I can finish it. Attached Images
Reply:he's looking for the peice that goes into the receiver, not the receiver itself. 1.4" is a bit on the heavy side. most comerecial hitches are 3/16" and those are pulling 6,000+ lbs. I know for a fact that my commercial cargo carrier is smaller than that, but don't remember exactly what it is. I'll check when I get home. It's rated for 500 lbs.The supplier should be willing to do cuts they'll charge you for it but they should be willing to do it. If not, try to find another supplier. Unless of corse you've got some other projects that could use the extra on the 20' piece. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
