ok ive herd not to do this and i wouldnt if it were a vehicle but im currently building a lawn tractor with a stright axle front end like a gasser car. Im using a set of snowmobile leaf springs only prob is the bottom leaf is way to long. so i used the next one again problem no way of mounting it. i wasnt sure if i could get a piece of hollow steel tube and weld it on the ends?i attached some pics the original bottem spring was cured around a hollow tube inthe 2nd pic is the spring im working with. i doubt i can have it heated and curled on both ends like the original bottom spring. Reply:The heat involved with welding essentially transforms the spring into a piece of flat bar. Would a piece of flat bar perform suffice in your application? If yes, then go ahead. If no, then you can't do this. Since you need the leaf spring to perform as a spring and not a piece of flat bar in your application, I'm going to say no you cannot do this. Because of the carbon content of spring steel, welding will make it brittle as well. That will make it prone to catastrophic failures.

Reply:so my only really choice is to have the ends curled then have it rearched?
Reply:You will have better luck with some trailer springs..They don't cost much..http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...atchallpartial...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Cut the springs to what you need then drill and bolt the eye's back on.________________________________Everlast PA140STEverlast PowerPlasma 50And no you can't Borrow them |
