The lightbulb finally clicked I think, and airgas gave me pure argon instead of a mix like last time I am mostly having trouble with my stops it keeps trying to crater. These were 3 of the more presentable ones, I know they are far from perfect but this is leaps and bounds better than my previous attempts. Attached Images
Reply:You are working against yourself. Let me explain....when you run a bead on a flat plate intead of running a bead on a joint you get uneven results and the bead profile cannot be used as any reference because the first weld has to have a lot of heat input and the bead looks cold because it is sitting on top of the plate. Then the next bead starts to look better because the whole plate has heated up but may have undercut, then you can get burn thru. Otherwise inconsistant results, even though you have not changed the perameters. The best way to do welding test is on coupons or plates that have a joint. A "T" joint or a fillet, or a butt joint or a pipe or tube to a flat plate. It takes a little more time to prepare a proper test plate but you get results that really can be used as a reference point. This advice is for steel ,stainless ,aluminum etc.,. |
