Hi folks,I just got an oxy-acetylene outfit and have been using my nice laminated woodworking bench, with some bricks on it to protect the top. But sparks and all do fly all over and burn the unprotected part. Is there something I can get to toss over the bench first to keep it uncharred? Thanks,Jack
Reply:nope......My layout table is a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood....works great for tacking stuff up,but I move my work off for serious welding or cutting.
Reply:A piece of sheet metal will protect from sparks but not from direct flame from torch. Light gauge from HD comes in like 2x3' pieces. Just put on bench use and then slide next to bench against wall. Out of the way real quick like.
Reply:A 3/8" steel plate 1" longer in each direction than what your workbench top is. That should do nicely, but you may never see the wooden top again.
Reply:I would not go anywhere near a Nice Woodworking bench with metal work- quick way to trash a good woodworking table. If it was just a basic Wood WORKbench then I wouldn't be concerned.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
