I have the opportunity to purchase one of these locally. I don't know how old it is but would test it out. The owner seems like a straightforward honest guy. He's been using it for hobby stuff - he's 65 and decided to slowly cut down on the equipment he has.He does not know how old it is. My main concern is replacement parts. I've fired off a note to Hobart and Thermal Arc to see if they still have parts for these old units. No reply yet. One of the posters on the Miller forums pointed out that there are absolutely no parts for it.The price is less than half of what I would pay for a new MM252 or equivalent machine so if there is a possibility of being able to replace a part if something went wrong - like the wire drive, I'd like to jump at it. I imagine replacing the gun and liner if necessary should be no problem. Chances are I might never need anything but $800 or so is still a lot of money to gamble with.Any one here have one of these machines? Any clue if any parts are to be found for them? Will appreciate any responses.
Reply:Man I dont know..Im a newbie but Betas are old i think I am concerned bout replacement parts when I looked also..So I went with a current model for that reason alone....Ive seen refurbed ironman 210 for $850 shipped..I know that gettting parts is piece of mind, and is worth a couple hundred bucks to me.Even though I dont know how to work on them your basically buying a 20+ year old machine from what ive seen on used beta advertised.
Reply:I used to have a Beta 250 years ago great machine, still have the spool gun, I believe it's a sp-2000 model with 20ft cable. Let me know if your interested might be willing to sell it. |
