Need ideas on how to make a turntable to run a bead more than 3/4" at a time around a tube/base.I have a small 2'X2' rolling welding table that fits under my bigger table. I'd like to have a removable turntable for it. Also how to attach the ground.Any ideas?

Reply:Hot damn. I remember a little geared motor(with rheostat) I used to use to wrap guides in fishing poles. Likewise, this didn't have torque at slow speeds so I dug up a gear box(no motor) for a BBQ, stuck a drill chuck on the motor and now have good torque at very slow speeds.Trouble is, both motor and gear box are right angle of input/output shaft so I'll have to figure out a way to mount it.Super idea! Thanks Winter.
Reply:Here's one I made which is fixed to the table, but you might get some ideas from it. Its a face plate off a lathe mounted on a bearing bolted to the table with a through hole for the ground. The ground is just a threaded rod on the chuck with a threaded collar to which I clamp the ground. The bearing is not a problem as the ground goes down the rod to ground. It is powered by a small motor out of a old coke machine and attached to a clamp from a computer stand. I made a bushing with a o-ring that just leans against the rim of the face plate and turns it at 1 RPM. I operate it with a foot switch so I just lift my foot if I'm getting ahead of the weld. Very controllable. I have a few more pictures coming. Attached Images

Reply:That looks really good!!I think the ground will arc in the threads of the rod coupling and stick to the threaded rod.miller... 225g, s32p, 250x, 304, 12vs, MSW41 victor o/a thermal dynamics cutmaster 50 lenco panel spotter hobart hf-boxG3 Farms.....raising cattle, hay, kids and hell, ...oh yeah I'm a fire sprinkler contractor by trade.
Reply:WOW! And that table has slots to hold clamps to center the work.I think I'm gonna have to re-think the possibilities. |
