my last big project

first a little background info. i mentor a high school robotics team. i have been doing it for the three years i was on it in high school and have been a mentor since i graduated (2004). i have been doing the welding for them for the past 5 or 6 years. so here are some pictures of the robot that the students designed and built. they compete in the FIRST competition. i wont get into a lot of details about the game. me and the other mentors teach and guide them. the students do most of the work, except the more complicated stuff where they get to assist. now for the pictures.discussing design and strategyframe laid out ready to be weldedthe frame had a little twist to it so i used what i had to straighten while it cooled.completed framewe make sure everyone gets a chance to use the millthe kids also have to write the software for it
Reply:our modified harbor freight boat winchat regionals getting inspectedon the fielda little friendly pushing matchat the end we were ranked 5th and made it through the semi finals. the result a bunch of happy and proud kids. but not as proud as me and the other mentors and teachers.so that is the latest project i worked on. and it will start over again next year.

Reply:yeah, it can be a little stressful at times but its worth it. i just wish the community would be more involved with this program. football is the big thing here.
Reply:Looks like quite a project.  Nice work and congrats to your students.We used to have several Bridgeforth mills just like that at my high school.  I'd give my ring finger to have access to one now...
Reply:that mill was donated to us by a company in huntsville al. they were going to throw it away but one of our other mentors that works there talked them into donating it. i dont know why the were going to get rid of it. there isnt much slop in it. it holds true extremely well.
