Started this project 2 months ago, and never got around to finishing it.  Just need to get the thing painted and hook up the gas lines... and some lava rocks, and i'm ready to go.Its just two basic pipe burner each has its own venturi.  its almost spring... i guess we can still light it at night and enjoy the ambiance. Reply:Oxy Moron,Where did you get the venturies?  The burners on my "stainless steel commercial grade" Home Depot gas bbq are corroded all to hell. I was thinking of replacing them with parts from the mfg.  but seeing your design, I'm thinking I can make burners from sch 40 pipe and when they rust out just get some more pipe. And are those slits or holes in the top of the pipes?  Can't really tell from the pics.  If they're slits then I'm guessing you used a band saw.Miller 211 w/ spool gunMiller Dynasty 200DXLongevity 60i IGBT plasmaO/A w/ crappy chinese torch/gaugesSouth Bend 10K latheGrizzly 4029 10x54 millGrizzly 7x12 hor bandsawangle grnders, bench grnder, bench belt sndr7.5 hp 80gal cmprsor
Reply:I'm interested in the design of those pipe burners also.  I need to make a couple for some parkerizing tanks, but don't wanna spend $100 for em.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build

Reply:I've seen that one Ed, the one I'm thinking of had holes drilled rather than saw cuts.  I also need to know measurements of the venturi for LP gas.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:Looking at the Pic it appears those Pipes are store bought- looks like they have a yellow Warning label on them. Also OM's Pit is for NGEd Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:here's the link for the venturi i used.  Mine is NATURAL GAS, by the way, in case you're interested in making your out of propane, then the venturi is differenthttp://www.tejassmokers.com/castironburners.htmbtw, thats just cig smoke.here's the store bought back pipe in test phase.  I just drilled a bunch of round holes on it using my drill/mill.

Reply:Any thoughts on using copper pipe for the burner tubes? I just made some replacement burner plates for my grill and noticed my burners are in sad shape, cracked and holes, I knew they were getting bad but when I touched them they started to crumble. Just thinking it would be easier to drill all the holes .MAC WS1110 Mig WelderWoodworker HobbyistDelta 10" Table Saw, Delta Planer, Bosch and Craftsman Routers, 48" Craftsman Lathe, drill press, 1/2" hand and cordless drills, scroll saw, skill saws, jig saws, etc, and too many hand tools to list, lol
Reply:copper pipe gives off bad fumes plus copper has a relatively low melting point it probably wont get hot enough to melt it but it might deteriorate faster than you would like.my choice would be a ss pipe they will last along time. After the arc has died the weld remains
Reply:Well the town I'm in has limited resources, finding ss pipe will be hard, I know grill burners did have galvenized parts at least they looked galv, how about EMT conduit?MAC WS1110 Mig WelderWoodworker HobbyistDelta 10" Table Saw, Delta Planer, Bosch and Craftsman Routers, 48" Craftsman Lathe, drill press, 1/2" hand and cordless drills, scroll saw, skill saws, jig saws, etc, and too many hand tools to list, lol
Reply:NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!  The heat generated may not cause an off gassing like welding galvanized would do, but it will still give off toxic fumes that will be absorbed by the meat.Even in smokers where temps are regulated 200-250 degrees, avoid galvanized parts inside the smoke/fire chamber for this very reason.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:Thanks for the imput, I'm just looking at alternatives since replacement burners are $30 a piece and to replace all 4 of them would be a bit over budget and more than half of the whole grills costs when new.MAC WS1110 Mig WelderWoodworker HobbyistDelta 10" Table Saw, Delta Planer, Bosch and Craftsman Routers, 48" Craftsman Lathe, drill press, 1/2" hand and cordless drills, scroll saw, skill saws, jig saws, etc, and too many hand tools to list, lol
