I want to buy a 20 amp 110 power cord but it all the one I look at are only rate for 12-15 amps max? My 80amp 110 HF Arc welder says it need a 20 amp cord for the power cord? I like to do some job over at a buddy's house but the outlet is a good 15 to 20 feed away as I don't want to welded on his nice wood deck. I just don't want to keep kicking the breaker or set the cord on fire or maybe not be able to get all the power I need? Or is the 15amp cord just fine for once in a while use???

Reply:Actually the amp rating on cords has to do with what's considered continuous duty. You won't be doing anything continuous duty. If you're worried about voltage drop, that's another issue. However since you don't know the first portion of his circuit build from the breaker to the outlet you're last 15 feet of cord probably will have little effect on the overall circuit. Reply:I find the larger the cord, the better the chance of making a quality weld. It just let's it have all the juice it wants. It is worth the money to get as big as you can afford.
