The title pretty much says it all. In my specific case I'm trying to get my mm175 mobile and it would all be a lot easier if I could lay the tank flat in my truck. I'll be using 72/25 mix. I remember at some point seeing a horizontal tank holder, so I assume its possible. Any special considerations? Any problems using the standard regulator?
Reply:Sure.  The gas in the tank of compressed gas doesn't care. But watch out for some DOT-types.  They freak and/or write tickets for a compressed gas tank that isn't vertical.  And -some- possible 'interpretations' of OSHA regulations are that tanks have to be vertical AND have the safety caps over the valves whenever a tank is transported or 'not in use'.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Tanks are meant to be vertical. Get a little baby tank if you need too. --Gol'
Reply:I do it all the time, everything except for my MAPP and C02(both containe liquid) are laying down.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Anything with CO2 needs a bit of slope to it, I've run CO2 bottles with just a 4X4 under the valve end just fine.Simple compressed gasses don't care if they are upside down or whatever. People who tell you otherwise don't know what they be talkin bout.JTMcC.

Reply:just dont shield with acetylene

That's why fighter pilots don't die when they go inverted, the oxy flows to the drivers mask just as if it was oriented in a vertical state.Cylinders with a liquid inside need some upwardness to the upward end, but not a lot.JTMcC

Reply:Originally Posted by JTMcCYou could of asked the manager at your welding supply, and saved yourself a lot of trouble. Then you would no longer have to "wonder why".Life is like that, we have questions, and innevitably there are people out there with the answers. No need to make it up. Search out those people and ask them. And the problem with the internet is that you can make things up down at the gas station, but on the net you'll likely run into someone who actually knows, or knows someone who knows someone who knows.JTMcC.
Reply:Originally Posted by JTMcCThis is true, period.Acytelene isn't a simple compressed shielding gas. You are sidetracking a conversation about "shielding gas" into a discussion of acytelene. And your fact's on acytelene are wrong as well. Acy can, and osha has made exception for its use in low clearance applications, at 30 degree from horizontal. Can you people please try to post accurate info???JTMcC.

Im gonna laugh when you have a vavle get sheared off when your tank is laying sideways and it pushed your rig 1/4 mile down the road or goes right through it. . I never said it couldn't be done. I'm saying they are meant to be stood up it's safer.
Reply:Originally Posted by Mega Arc 5040DDII just didn't want anybody to think what you said actualy applied to all compressed gasses when in fact it does not. But I thank you for the rest of your info because I to was wondering if I could put my mig bottle on its side in my rig to save space and now I know.
Reply:Here's the problem with the internet, you may get away with being an expert on every topic down at the local gas station or donut shop, but when you venture out into cyberspace, and it doesn't matter wether you post on nuclear physics, quantum theory, growing roses or welding.....there is going to be some dude show up who works in that field, and actually knows how it's done. This is good because it weeds out the wannabes's who pretend to understand fields they really have no experience in. But it's bad because every hack with just enough knowledge to be dangerous gets to hold forth like they really know what they're talking about. And some people will believe the crap they spew forth. So it's a double edged sword. Buyer beware.JTMcC.
Reply:strip mine near by makes all of their repair guys put these big mailbox size cages around their regulators. even if the bottles are secured in racks.  screws onto the top and covers the valve and regulators.

I have, nobody laughed as the helicopter flew away with the injured workers. You are a stupid idiot. And you "laugh"???? If you think an oxy cylinder will propel a 12,000 lbs truck a quarter mile "down the road" you didn't pay attention in H.S. physics.I'll repeat in case I wasn't clear, you are a stupid idiot and you have no business posting information on a welding site.JTMcC.
