I was working on the car and I couldn't find my magnetic tray so I grabbed one of the boxes I made in Dave R's thread. Is there anyway to make them magnetic? Or anyone know of any good inexpensive magnetics that be used on the bottom of the box and stay in place?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Google 'rare earth' or 'neodymium' magnets. There are a bunch ofonline retailers that will sell you some very strong magnets for cheap. They can get up to bone crunching strong so be careful. Theone thing I've found is that they have a smaller, um, zone of effectiveness.By that I mean.... as they get closer to magnetic material they don't reallyaffect it till they get pretty close then, SNAP!! They grab like crazy.I've fractured a few and had fragments flying from letting even small1/4" x 1/4" x 1/4" snap together and they couldn't handle the shock. They are very good for a whole bunch of applications though. How do you know the blacksmith's dog? Reply:I did this with the remote I made. I used one of the magnets out of a hard drive. Works great with the magnet stuck to the outside of the box. It didn't work so great with the magnet inside the box. The box was 1/8" thick material.Just epoxy the magnet to the outside of your box and go! Reply:Also you can get good magnets out of junk microwaves. They all have two very strong magnets in the magnetron (Radar) tube. Epoxy them to the bottom of the tray. |
