Anyone have a job like this?Very interesting helmet.
Reply:How the hell is he controlling that helmet?A butterfly without wings, is just an ugly bug
Reply:The hood is chin operated. There is a chin strap that raises and lowers the shade. Do a search, there have been at least a couple of threads about that hood before, with at least one containing that same video.Visit Tensaiteki.com

Reply:looks like a cool idea, but ill stick with my speedglass...if you go to their website, they say the accustrike is safer than an adf because its always dark and doesnt have to wait for the light to pass through it...this is a crock, cuz what is actually burning your eyes is the ir and uv lights of welding, and a good adf is always blocking the ir and uv radiation, regardless of what shade position its in...yeah looking at the light while the adf is in the "light" position mayb be uncomfortable, but its not doing any permanent damage...but a neat alternative non the lessLast edited by punkfreerider; 12-22-2008 at 10:09 PM.
Reply:Wouldn't your jaw start hurting after hours of doing that?Proud to be a UNION worker.  Better pay, better benefits, better work environment.  UA Unions = working for the working class!!
Reply:Man! That's Fast! They're building motorcycle frames on piece rate, and the weld quality suffers--typical of mostproduction cycle frames.Blackbird

Reply:I reckon if you went for a beer with the guy from booth A36, he'd have a jaw action like a goldfish.Looks like a bit of a sweatshop. I couldn't tell but did the slow neighbor actually weld the same product? Reply:This is a valuable picture of production welding.  Not all welding is slow paced as people believe.  Many maintenance and pressure welders cannot handle the pace and leave in a day or two.  In some ways it is not unlike a software writer stuck in a cubicle.   I have done this kind of work and yes with a conventional helmet your neck muscles hurt for the first few days.   Purchasing a self darkening and thinking about what you are doing pays off.   This reminds me of a jigged setup that regular shift was putting out four a day.  The boss in desperation offered the job to me and a new guy fresh out of school at a flat rate of ten dollars each.  We managed to put out six an hour on that Saturday.   In the first hour I said " not too bad,  We made forty bucks, that's twenty each."  For the rest of the day the reins were loosed and that young buck set the pace.  Those were 1982 dollars.

Reply:[QUOTE=Engloid;237457]"Can't" is a powerful word.  I think it's more a matter of what they aren't willing to do than what they aren't able to do.Some people are not capable of repetitive work. They simply lose interest or consider it below them.  It is partially a mindset of willingness but seriously it drives them around the bend.  Couple that with a lowering of quality.  If you have done nothing but perfect welds and someone asks you so do it two or three times as fast and disregard the quality it sends some people into spasms of protest. In structural shops I have seen very skilled pressure welders shown the door after a couple of days.  They did beautiful work but took at least twice as long to do it.  They could not understand that there was a need for speed.     I have done many production/repetitive tasks and some people are incapable of doing it.  They lack something.  I don't know what it is.  I guess it is an aptitude.  Ask some machinist that have done repair and custom work if they would like production and many would not.  They just don't have the mental set to tackle a job that might last months before the run is completed.  The ones that love production work will continually tickle things trying to even go faster.  Others sit there with an imaginary chain around their neck and complain how boring it is.
Reply:First thing, these guys need A/D helmets. Second, that looks like a job that could be replaced by a machine or robot, which I would worry about.

The pupils are what determine how much light gets into your eyes and their size is controlled by the dilator and sphincter muscles of the iris. And, when you go from dim light to bright light, the eye 'hurt' as the muscles contract to make the pupils smaller.Doctors test your pupils when they check for neurological damage. So if they are always hurting, you may want to see a doctor to determine the cause. "
