Reply:Go to a Welding supply Store and have it exchanged for what you want. They will not Re fill the tank that you have with something different. Some stores charge you for a Hydro Test.My Airgas NEVER charges , they just Exchange It.
Reply:Ok I call tomorrow they are asking 140.00 for this tank.
Reply:At one time I was talking with a guy who runs a fire extinguisher type business. He offered to take a tank hydro test it and install whatever knob and fitting thing would be necessary to get it filled with something else. That is more helpful than the welding shops would be as they only deal with stuff they lease for larger than 80 cubic feet. At at least at that time in that place.
Reply:Make sure that ring under the safety cap doesn't have someone's name on it. That would imply that it's a rental tank, and no one may fill for you. $140 sounds very high. Around here, I can get one on CL like that for around half that.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:I'd pass unless I was darn sure somebody would fill or exchange it. Don't get burned.
Reply:Just be sure that the ring does not have a company embossed onto it. If so, then this is a rental tank and they will not refill it.Here is a good video that explains it.
Reply:Things have changed a lot in the last 10 years of the Bottled Gas Industry. There have been so many Buyouts by Airgas , Praxair , Linde and smaller gas suppliers that went out of Business that it is not a big deal if there is a Company's neck ring on a bottle. In the 30's 40's and 50's you could not buy a bottle ,they were all owned by the gas company's. I take all my tanks ,reguardless of the name on them ,to my local Airgas. They don't care what name is on them ,they just swap them out ,and never charge a Hydrotest. And their prices are the best in the city.
Reply:Not here in So. Cal.! Name on the ring, don't get a thing. Except maybe they keep your tank if you put on their dock (and they think it is theirs) before you inquired, esp. Airgas. Reply:What does it mean by 06 +. Is that the hydrotest date? I thought it was suppose to be a star, but mines shows a +.
Reply:The 06 is the hydro date. The "+" tells you it was tested to 10% over rated pressure. In theory it allows the gas supplier to "over fill" the cylinder by 10% legally. They started this in WWII in order to save on materials. Today it's not really as big a deal with commercial gas cylinders.A star would designate a 10 year hydro vs the standard five year hydro. The green cylinder shows a "+" and a star. It was hydro'd in July (6)of 2010, The next set of symbols between the month and year tells you the shop that did the hydro, the star tells you it's a 10 year hydro and the "+" means it was tested 10% over rated pressure. The white cylinder just has the "+" and is only good for 5 years. It was hydro'd in Feb (2) of 2003, the next set of symbols between the month and year tells you the shop that did the hydro, the and the "+" means it was tested 10% over rated pressure.
