I have a small Uniweld O/A set and a Lincoln SP 100 / w.gas that I picked up years ago.Up to this point I have only done soldering [plumbing] and silver soldering [aircond] but would like learn for some home projects.I have some aluminum pontoon boat railing that I need to weld,it's about an 1/8 th thick and about 1 1/4 in square. What type of rod would I need to for o/a welding? I will spend some practice time on scrape before attempting to weld. Also, the Uniweld OR[replaced it with spare] lets oxygen thru even with the pressure backed off, diaphram is good,I can't locate a parts diagram online can you help?Last edited by Ezrollin; 04-27-2012 at 04:45 PM.
Reply:Gas welding alum isn't the easiest thing to learn, especially if you are not familiar with OA welding to begin with. IIRC tinmantech has some good videos available that will help you learn to do gas welding with alum.A lot of guys will use one of the alum brazing rods like Muggyweld, Alumaweld or one of the other similar rods. Do a search on them and you'll probably find several other brands listed here..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:I do have some of the Alumiweld rods and they may suffice but I would still like to try some true o/a alum welding.I'll check out those videos, thanks. |
