Want to make a couple stands and tables for tools - is there any common place for buying square tubing at reasonable prices?
Reply:At the local store, I have 4 places that I purchase stock from. What's your location?  That'll help
Reply:Hardware and big box stores generally charge a huge mark-up.  If you Google "metal supply" and your zip code, you'll likely find some better alternatives.  Or post your location here, and you'll get even better direction.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:I live near Langhorne, PAYeah big box is $$$$$Just looking for some tubing for random projects.  If I need something specific I hit up mcmaster and eat the mark up, but for general all purpose stuff I need a better source! Thanks for the replies!

Reply:Jon,You're right about one thing.I have little use for posters who are unwilling to put forth "a little effort" on their own.Asking a question like "where do you buy tube", without at least listing a location, is just one example.  Where I buy tube (Richman Steel, BMG, EMG,etc) in Virginia, has little to do with where I'd buy tube if I was in California.Good luck on learning the tig process.  Maybe you'll find someone else "To tell you how to do it".Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:For steel supply, while internet sources may be "cheaper", you must think about shipping for this stuff. When you buy by the pound, shipping ain't gonna be cheap.I go to a local supply (which I found on google, coincidentally), and buy drop for .55/lb. 50lbs of the stuff runs me ~$27. How much do you think shipping would cost on a couple 25lb square tubes 5' long?Hobart EZ-Tig newbie.

Reply:Um, a steel dealer? (Just a guess.)Perhaps you've heard of Google...it's a search engineLet me Google that for you.Who the fark would EVER buy steel from McMaster (even if shipping were FREE, and it ain't)?????????????????????????????????????????Last edited by Kelvin; 04-23-2012 at 01:40 AM.
Reply:All I can say is check around I found a local full service fab shop that sells steel, aluminum, really cheep. I been getting drops of aluminum to practice on form them. I found this place from a weldor friend of mine, so maybe ask a local weldor in your area where he buys his steel from. Will   Supports Autism Awareness                            My ToysBobCat 225 PLusMillermatic 130Miller Spectrum 300 CutmateEverlast Power Tig 185 Micro April is Autism Month .

Reply:If you can find one by you, sometimes some of the larger steel suppliers have a "drop section" where they charge you scrap pricing for cut offs etc. much cheaper than buying it "new". I've gotten 3' x 4' plate for scrap price. Other time I deal with local businesses which can tend to get pricey unless your buying full stock lengths, at $15 a cut it get expensive in a hurry. I use Albany steel, metal super market, Oneonta steel supply (closest), and sherburne steel. Bht I'm in centralish NY. Reply:Originally Posted by Oldiron2 I have to agree with Sundown here. You ask such a simpleton question without even bothering to set your User CP to show your location, but still expect something beyond the obvious "go to a steel supplier"? You didn't mention that you own a shipping company either, so it's reasonable to assume you don't want your supplies sent by some kind of mail. OK, I'll play... Reply:http://www.steelsupplylp.com/Originally Posted by Oldiron2You continue to make my point with each new post here. As I said before, you asked an open-ended question and wanted us all to guess what you really wanted; you have inadvertently added some of the originally-missing information in each new post, while proving yourself to be the jerk and moron you refer to by your reaction to the comments about your own shortcomings here. In the post you cited above, the OP at least gives his location and states he has looked in his area with no good effects. That's far more than you stated when you started this thread.BTW, the last time I got something like that piece of SS pipe you just bought, it was Free... and no, I won't tell you where either....'cause I don't remember and there wouldn't be another there even if I did.

Reply:Google Reyerson Steel, there page has a locations tab you can put in your zip and viola they have one in your state.Very competitive prices but you have to spend 250$ min. Plan your projects and save money.
Reply:I buy from the local supplier, I have a good business relationship with them and get awesome prices. But then I don't have an attitude with them either. If you talk to real people in person like you do on here then you will be charged accordingly. For online sources I have used Speedymetals.Tim Beeker.

Reply:What finish are you looking for on the pipe? Is it pipe or tube? Your original post said tube, I incorrectly assumed you wanted square tube.I also assume you want DOM or seamless? And what I meant about attitude on here vs. in person is for all internet users, including myself. We tend to type more attitude via keyboard then we do face to face.Tim Beeker.

Reply:Sorry I just saw this.I'm not that far from you in Bucks. Mild steel, I usually hit Finkels over in Lambertville NJ just over the old bridge from New Hope Pa. if I need small quantities. I was there yesterday picking up 5' of 1x3" rect tube for a project. Most times I go over to Jersey and hit Joseph Fazzio's in Glassboro South Jersey if I need any real quantity. They have a ton of surplus and used tools as well. Well worth the trip. Plan on spending a few hours browsing their surplus tools/ supplies. The new store has just about anything constrctuion related you need.http://www.shopjfi.com/I forget who I used a few years back in Bensalem for steel. I think it was Pennsylvania Steel.. I've used Hoover Steel out towards Pheonixville Pa in the past as well. A friend recently suggested Met-L-Center in Warminster Pa, but I haven't had a chance to stop in there yet.Stainless, I deal with Penn Stainless up in Quakertown Pa. I used to have it delivered where I used to work, but now I usually just order it and pick it up myself.Alum, Pierce Alum in Warminster. They are right on Jacksonville Rd off Street Rd across for where the old hanger was at NADC. Though the last few times I picked up what I needed either at Fazzio's or Finkels because I only needed a few feet.I will agree with the other guys, I'd add your location to your User CP so we all have an idea where you are at all the time. If I'd known you were local, I'd have paid a bit more attention to the thread and probably answered sooner..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
