I currently have a ck 17 series air cooled torch on my DC tig machine. I mostly weld 16ga. stainless for automotive fabrication. The most i`ll ever run is about 90 amps on thicker stuff. My question is, would it be more practical to downsize to a 9 series torch? Ive heard of people getting better results with this. I also plan on getting gas lenses for the torch, and they look a little big for the 17 series torches, Espeically when encountering tight areas. Also, could anyone recommend a good 9 series torch for this application?thanks in advance.Last edited by 1320TSI; 01-20-2009 at 12:57 PM.
Reply:I use a WP-9 from Weldcraft and a Standard 9 series flex head from CK. If you purchase a new torch and are happy with your current power cable on the 17 series you can purchase just the torch. It will be a lot cheaper. Just slide the handle down and you will see the power/gas connection. I purchased my CK torch from www.tigdepot.net. They have good pricing and quick shipping.
Reply:Thanks for the reply. Looks like a good site. Would the flex head torch sufficent for use all the time? You mentioned you have a rigid head torch as well, where would that have benifit over the flex head? Im just thinkin it may be a better idea to spend a little extra money for the flex head.
Reply:The rigid torches will last longer... (no moving parts)One benefit of the 9 series torch is that it is smaller and lighter, and for long runs will be easier to handle. Both CK and Weldcraft are high quality manufacturers and will give you good performance for your money.-----------------------Carmen Electrodewww.CarmenElectrode.comand the boss blogs at www.JoeWelder.comall powered by www.Arc-Zone.com
Reply:The rigid will last longer. Eventually the flex will start to leak. I use the flex almost all the time. I have had both the Weldcraft and CK flex head and prefer the CK. I think the flexable portion of the CK torch is a lot better. |
