Is there an advantage to one over the other?  At work we use gas lenses, but the torch I bought recently had a set of collet bodies with it.  The one thing I like about the gas lenses at work is that the nozzles is quite a bit shorter.  I don't know if you can get shorter ones or not for a collet body but the way I hold a torch, the nozzles mine came with are too long for my fingers to support it.My Babies:MillerMatic 185Thermal Arc 300SHobart StickMate AC/DC 235/160Dalex Werke Spot WelderOh and the wife and kids are important too!
Reply:Gas lenses are just a torch accessory that provides laminar (non-turbulent) gas flow. They do tend to make your torch shorter. If you prefer using a gas lens, then I would say do it. I don't know of any downside to using one over a regular collet body.
Reply:If you look at the construction of the gas lens compared to that of the collet body you will see that the way in which the shielding gas leaves the cup is different. Ive heard it is supposed to give you better gas coverage. Allows you to have a longer electrode stick out than with a collet body. I personally use the gas lens. I like them.
