Hardfacing Vs Joining

Why it is not mettalurgically possible to use a hardfacing rod for joining purpose.Alternatively,which properties restric hardfacing rods for bieng used as joining rods.For example: - a straight chrome martensitic steel welding rod  ,normally used for cavititaion resitance is said to have tensile strength of upto 100kgf/mm2 and an elongation of upto 16% .and yet have a hardness upto 35 HRc ....hence our question is will such an alloy be alloyed to be used for joing purpose also..Please help with elaborate answersregardsSanjay
Reply:Here is and elaborate answer  :1. You can use hardfacing rod to join but....2. It is not made for penetration - it more lays on top,3. It is generally not ductile - it will break easily,4. Some hardfacing rods crack as they cool - a known issue,5. There are much better rods for joining - if you want a joint that is hardfaced just add a bead or two on top.You don't state the anticipated use so it is difficult to imagine the application.
Reply:NO.Don't do it.Whatever it is it won't last......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I would think that common sense says to use hard facing rod for hard facing.  Would you us diesel fuel in a turbIne engine that calls for using Jet-A? Sure you could do that, however the turbine engine will need an overhaul that much sooner. Use your 60xx, 70xx and 80xx to "join" metal.
