is my liner gone?

ran out of wire on my mig, went to feed a new slightly thicker wire in, keeps jamming at the very end, tried both ways nada.  even tried to feed some .023 in it from the gun end, it only goes in about an inchDo liners have plastic in them?  could i get a small drillbit and use it to clean the liner?
Reply:Remove the liner, and check to see what has gone on inside the line. If you still have the steel liner, you may have kinked it, or unraveled a coil, making it fail. If it is a plastic liner, you may have torn it or punched through the wall of it.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:The best way to clean liners, IMO, is to use compressed air. Be sure that whatever is inside doesn't get in your eyes or under your skin; clamping the free end in a vise might help.Most liners are made of coiled wire; those for aluminum may have a Teflon coating to reduce friction, so are more sensitive to ragged ends of the wire tearing them. Over time, the wire making the liner can break and the parts can sometimes screw together, preventing a new wire  from entering.  Is there any chance that you have the last of the old wire still inside?The liners aren't hard to remove so you can examine or replace them.
Reply:When you ran out, you didn't pull the kinked tag end through from the tip did ya? That tag end will break off in there every time.
