mounting axels onto an aluminum trailer

i was wondering what the best way is to mount steel axels to an aluminum trailer?

Reply:Mount the axle, complete with leaf springs and hangers, to a piece of angle. Then you can bolt the angle to the aluminum.

Reply:I would go find an all aluminum trailer dealer and see what they do on theirs, make sure your looking at the same weight capacity. the steel angle bolted on would work too, you could make the holes on a standard distance and make your balance point adjustable (mount fenders to the angle as well)good luck with your project.Hobart Handler 190 Century 90amp on FluxCraftsman 200amp buzzbox
Reply:If you can, isolate the steel from the aluminum.  If you bolt a plate to the aluminum set duct tape onto the aluminum first.  Otherwise the corrosion will be massive and the aluminum will be eaten away.
Reply:I might guess this is a home made as if it was a factory one it probably had steel leaf springs etc.  Though there are torsion bar and other type of axles.  It is a very short question in post #1.  Is the frame box, channel, I beam or something else?  For channel they generally tell you to box in the section where the hangers go.  Is the frame spacing exactly right for the distance between the hangers right to left.  Some deck over trailers have basically a steel tube box the hangers are on which would allow a bit of flexibility if your frame tubes aren't exactly the spacing of the spring mounting points on the axles.  Like stated above find a featherlite dealer which is aluminum trailer and wander around the yard.Fran
