i bought an auto-shade and im on an internship and we do SMAW,FCAW,GMAW pulse, and GMAW spray.i had the sensitivity on high and my shade on 10 and then i put it on 13 because it felt like somone put salt in my eyes which means my eyes got burnt.  and then he shade was to dark so i put it on 11 but i still had the salt feeling in my eyes.so i was wondering how long does the salt feeling last after you burn your eyes by accident? because i almost wanted to use the schools helmets instead of mine because i wasnt sure if it was burning out my eyes still.i have this helmet:http://www.airgas.com/browse/product...=AG21000F-0141bought it from airgas which is the closes store from where i live.
Reply:if you use the potato treatment it is usually gone when you wake up the next morning.
Reply:Unless your shade is dangerously defective (I highly doubt it), you're looking at the wrong problem.Auto-dark shades are all dark to shade 14 in the IR and UV spectrum, and only the visible portion of light is controlled.  You are at no risk of flash burn, with your mask off, or even with the sensors covered (so it stays in the full light setting), since with no UV and somewhat limited visible light, you'd simply blink before your eyes were hurt. What I'm thinking, is you're getting light from another source.  Could light be getting around the lens's gasket?  Are you getting reflections from the rear?  Either could be hurting you.
