I built this poling platform for my brother's boat with 6061-T6 using my new(ish) Miller 211 & a Spoolmate 100. I sure wish I had a TIG machine for projects like this because the welds I made on this platform, while adequate, sure would be prettier with TIG. With the inherent cold starts of the spoolgun, as soon as i'd get a decent weld going it would be time to stop & re-position, with the small dia. of the pipe I used. I took the photo right after I finished it & my brother has since added a top. He's happy with it.
Reply:The 60-61 T6 511 is actually a good choice for something like that, because you need the strength and flex for something like that. You don't want soft and bend able. I bet he is really happy with it. It looks great. Sincerely, William McCormick |
