hey i am welding some 1.75x.95 wall d.o.m to 1/8" steel place and i need some help.  I have the angles like seamless everything fits together very tight but i need help welding this.  This is just for practice and it seems like i burn thru the tube or something like that.  i need help on how to prevent this and how to get it to look like the tack weld does in the other pic but running a bead? i also need help on like where i should be placing the wire when i weld.  I am just welding it flux core.35 and its a lincoln weld pak 125 125 amps.  Please help thanks Attached Images
Reply:oh i also forgot to mention i was on heat setting e, which on this machine is max and was at wire speed 2.  thanks
Reply:Set the heat to D, and start the weld on the plate and wet it into the tubing. And it looks like you are going to fast with the gun travel. Reply:Yeah keep your puddle on the thicker metal and just lighly drag it to the thinner material and repeat2007 Lincoln 200D Pipeliner
Reply:try breaking a weld to see if you are getting penetration..look for a heat pattern on the backside of the weld....the beads look cold..like they are sitting on the surface...you wanta smooth tie-in where the bead meets the parent metal, called the toe..how are yer straight  beads on plate and t-joints? glad to hear yer fittup is good...keep burnin  wire..
Reply:Your fitup looks great.  Instead of welding the joint, try welding the two pieced together. ( a li ttle back and forth motion). You will get better by doing.  Try things and see what works for you.  Keep the gun angled back a little towards the start line (drag or pull).  Its difficult with round stuff.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Agree with the too cold =Up your setting.Agree with speed = slow down let it puddleAgree with motion= make a side to side puddleAgree with torch= most of your torch angle should be directed to the thicker of the two metals.Overall more heat with less speed an a torch angle more at the thicker of the two metals.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:Is your polarity set with torch negative and work cable positive? With the voltage set on D or E, which I assume is the max for the machine, and the wire set for 2, which I assume is near the minimum for the machine, sounds like you don't have enough wire speed.   Not enough wire speed means not enough current (amps) and no penetration (cold weld, what we see in the pics).   Try turning up the wire speed and slowing down the travel speed (how fast you move the torch). You are dragging the torch not pushing it right?   Drag with fluxcore.  You only need a little drag angle on the torch too, don't lay it down.  Hold it just a little bit back from vertical. Also, hold the torch at a 45 degree work angle (45* from horizontal with the plate) and point the wire mostly at the plate and lick up to the tube quickly to put more heat on the plate and less on the tube.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:hey tell me what you think about these welds, i built a little shock hoop for a project of mine.  I thought the welds were pretty good thanks alot for the input though guys Attached Images
Reply:More heat needed.I'd rather be hunting........USE ENOUGH HEAT.......Drifting around Aussie welding more pipe up, for something different.....wanting to get home.
Reply:You're definitely improving. MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Getting better but as wirehunt said.  You need more heat..I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:If you only have a small spool of that .035, hunt around for some .030. It'll give some more room on the settings plus allow you to move a little slower and float some of that slag out. There's too much slag at the edges so it's not hot enough to wet out or you're moving fast to keep the bead profile from piling up, one or the other. The .030 might help there.
