Ok so i have a Jd 270 long stick( 65 foot reach). The weld around the boss is cracked. Everyone at my shop has welded it and now its my turn. How would you go about this once the crack is cut out as far as pre-heating exc.
Reply:Its the boss the boom cylinder is attached to.
Reply:Do you have any photos to post up? Many here are the visual type.
Reply:Ill see what i can do. i almost have it arced out. Just a few my grapes some retard put on.
Reply:Contact Deere and see what they recomend for a repair. You are probably not the only ones to have this type of failure.Dan D.
Reply:Depending on when your machine was made, they had some really bad robotic welding parameters that made good aesthetic beads, but very poor welds. I'd contact Deere.
Reply:Mild steel? T1? A good welder does his research to determine what he's welding on before he starts his repair (should be an easy fix)
Reply:I dont think its t1. Its not that hard. And if 4 different weldershave tried to fix it its not an easy fix. Ill put a picture up tomorrow of what im working with.
Reply:I called cat and got their procedure. John deere has been a pain in the past for me
Reply:You might want to check the boom with a string to see if it's straight. If the operator was side sweeping with it the boom might be tweaked causing the main boom cylinder to be exerting unequal pressure on the mount causing the numerous breaks, I've run into this more than once.
Reply:root pass with eutectic 680 will stop the root from cracking, small cracks can form and go through the weld than weld with 110,,has fix all my boss hasals |
