So I've been meaning to make an arbor for my grape vine to grow on for a while and today I finally got around to it. I had a hard time trying to figure out how to bend the square stock without any specialized tools, luckily I have a seatrain in my back yard that has the anchor points in the corners. I was able to pass the pipe through the anchor point and manually bend the metal. Not the best looking bends, but good enough for the grapes to grow on. I welded it up with 6013 1/4 rods. I used my miller maxstar for most of the welding at 90-100 amps and I used my hf inverter to put it up. My 220 extension cord wasn't long enough so I had to use the hf inverter. Not the best way to bend, but it worked!I've attached wire from rebar to rebar to allow the grape vine to grow across the arbor.

Reply:The metal was left over from my wrought iron fence, as well as the fancy little designs, only four pieces were whole, the others were just little pieces that I didn't throw away... I'm pretty bad about that, always saving everything.... some call it being a pack-rat! My grape vine really needed somewhere to grow! There is a bit of kinking going on where I bent the pipe, but from a few feet away it's not noticeable. My dogs helping me measure!OUCH! yeah he did bite and hold on! |
