Broken bolt and CV shaft in a Honda transmission

A friend brought this to me today. After spending 2 days trying to chisel it out from the backside, accomplishing nothing but mushrooming it out behind the splines, they brought it to me. Bonus broken bolt.Did the bolt first. Straightforward. Yes, I know welding over galvanizing is bad, I've had the shakes more than once etc.. Easy enough. The broken CV shaft was much harder. I had made a make-shift puller by welding the head of a bolt to the cv shaft, and making a hole through a strip of 3x1" 1/8" strapping with small spacers to clear the seal and try pulling it. The bolt broke as soon as a good amount of tension was put on it. Broke even with the nut. So now I have this stubb sticking out even with the transmission with a few boogered threads. I cranked up the welder to 160A and just ran beads on the outside edge of the shaft taking care not to fuse the splines to the gear, then popped it out with a small crowbar.Managed to get it out without buggering up the splines on the gear, or melting the seal on the transmission.Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders

Reply:I have had many honda's for years, i never seen or heard of a busted cv. You are a lucky guy to get that.....LOL.....Good job. The CV usually pop out pretty good (if there a little longer)
