Didn't Solid mig wire use to cost half as much as Flux core?

Went to Home Depot the today and price for .03 solid was 39 bucks and flux core was 45 bucks.  So what are y'all paying for 10lbs solid vs. flux core?
Reply:You're paying bout double what you would at a welding supply place.  The last two spools of wire I bought were about $2 a pound.  Actually I think they were less than that.
Reply:Thanks.  My last roll of Hobart wire was purchase from my supplier. They charged me 38 bucks.  That is why I went to Home Depot/lowes.  They were at 32 bucks last time I purchased some.
Reply:Bought a 10lb roll of NR 211 a few weeks back.  Didn't even look at the price.  I've given up on looking at it  It doesn't help.  Besides, there's only one place within 45 miles to buy the stuff.Notice how rods went up when the price of steel was high.  They used it as an excuse to raise the price.  Think it's coming down now that steel is down?  NOT ON YOUR LIFE"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:The welding / repair business used to be so cheap to get into. Now you need 20k on your truck just to do basic stuff. Not including ins, fuel on and on. I could by a tin of 7018 for around 40 bucks. Back on track here. Reply:I pay a dollar a pound for a 33 lb spool of Thermal Arc .045.  Never bought a 2 lb spool except Stainless.Try the internet like weldingdepot.com.  Cheaper even with shipping.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:The spools at Home Depot are 12.5 lbs solid wire and 11 lbs flux core.

Reply:Don't buy it from Home depot, shop around a little. Thats like buying Pepsi from a convience store its twice as much as a normal store. I get mine off ebay from HTP and its cheap including shipping. Reply:Always use the Internet to compare prices, and bring examples to your LWS. They have LOTS of price latitude on many (not all) brands.
