Reply:He11 of a bleepin' score, as others have mentioned...The Sandvik wire is all-position gas-shielded flux-core, I think it's for 75/25 but not sure, no Sandvik data handy. The 309L is most commonly used for joining mild steel to stainless, also good for dis-similar stainless alloys, e.g. joining 308 to 316. The.045 is mostly used in spray transfer on heavier stock, not as useful as .035 but for the price, who'd complain.Check the condition of the cored wires before you use them for anything serious, they'll run rough and give you porosity problems if they've been exposed to moisture.OK, now go and enjoy your ill-gotten gains!   JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps

But it's a REALLY good salary, I think!$270  is what it cost me in fuel to go and get my sticky fingers on this pile from t-bone!!!I never tried it, but I know about the ESAB 7100 Ultra, but I am not familiar with the others, especially the SS wire. So if anyone has any info on it they would like to share, (before I research it), please do, including value/cost, what used on/for, material thickness for diameters, etc.

Reply:I know the LN 25's are raved about, so I'm happy I get to try it out. Which mini ones do you use? The LN 15's or the new Activ 8's? And since when did you change your sig? Does 11018 smell better than 6010?Haha Stick man!   Well its one of those things that Navy welders know.   6010 is NOT allowed on Navy ships.  Even saying let me go grab some 6010 in front of the wrong guy can seriously get you sent home.   Long story short on top of a day long training and quizzes for the NAVY.  They keep QC guys on the vessels as you work.  If you cannot quote the Navy process and level your are welding under, dont have your temp sticks, and or tell them the max jewels allowed for the process your welding under you will not be allowed back on the ship.   Same thing with arc stikes undercut and grind marks.   No arc strikes allowed!Undercut cannot be more than 3/64th's inch - Less than a sheet of paper. No grind marks on the plate or it may have to be taken out and re-done.  Also if they x-ray or uT a weld there is only is the tinyest amount of flaws allowed. They figure if you can't comply your not good enough to work on one of thier ships.  Navy subs are the most stringent.  i don't work on those. So to remind myself of that I took the 6010 down and replaced it with 11018. It's required for specific plates on Navy ships. It's somewhat similar to 7018 but its very unique.    i love welding it. Reply:Oh i forgot the Active 8.  Honestly I will always love the smell 6010.“I'm going to do the thing that God put Galen Beasley on this Earth to do:Have Salon quality hair and weld.Nothing like a good cup of coffee and the smell of 6010 burning in the morning. 971-204-3444 cell API ASME Structural NDT and Repair
Reply:So what's the feedback on the Activ8? It look really nice. Is it worthy to call a "mini LN-25"?"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Def a mini LN 25!  If your into lincoln and have to have lincoln  I'd personally only run active 8's.   Reason being can't remember the last time I ran thru a 33 lb spool in a day.  The active 8's have 15 lb spools.  weighs maybe 25lbs w everything.  To me it makes so much more sense carry an active 8's and have a backup spool close by.   Than LUG  almost 60 lbs of LN 25 with a heavy duty whip.  Not including any leads attached.I can't count the number of times I've seen guys find other stuff to do, than be productive cause they dont want to lug that heavy *** LN 25 around a ship or tank that they are working on towards the end of the day.“I'm going to do the thing that God put Galen Beasley on this Earth to do:Have Salon quality hair and weld.Nothing like a good cup of coffee and the smell of 6010 burning in the morning. 971-204-3444 cell API ASME Structural NDT and Repair
Reply:Cool!, thanks for the info. I am really liking the compact 8 size, but I also like the digital readout on the 8VS.
