I had a friend give me a couple of torsion axles and I am going to put them on a light utility trailer that I will haul 2 riding mowers on.   The trailer is 1 1/2" angle iron with the same for cross members.  It has a 1X1 square tube fence around the perimeter 6" above the deck.  Any suggestion on what to use to weld these torsion axles on? Reply:I've never seen a torsion axle without the mounting plates before. These http://tinyurl.com/7ubc4om are the ones on the trailer I built and I just made plates with matching holes and welded them to the trailer and bolted the axles to them. You can't or shouldn't weld directly to the tubes as you'll screw up the rubber. Three options I can see, either find a tube that you'rs will fit inside of, u-bolts over the tube or maybe angles with correct size holes in one leg that the tubes will fit thru.....Mike

Reply:I have been using it for 5 or 6 years.  The 1 inch square tubing fence that is 6 inches above the deck running the perimeter with 14 stand ups seems to make it pretty solid.   I am going use 2X4 rectangular on its side to mount the torsion axles on.  Then I will brace the 2x4 with angle iron from the other cross members.  The trailer is not used extensively, it goes 3 miles to cut the local cemetery and 4 miles to my other farm.   Seems to work well for that.Last edited by Blackroc86; 06-16-2012 at 07:35 PM.
