Miller Suitcase QuestionsBought a Miller 12vs suitcase real cheap on Craigslist and had a few questions, especially after reading some of the other Suitcase welder posts. I am mostly a weld in the shop guy so some of the field welding equipment intrigues me.I am told when you run wire, if you use gas CO2 is best. Why not not argon/co2? Other than cost what is a benefit to straight co2?If you use fluxcore instead, would you recommend dual shield or just plain innershield? Is it better to run gas or innershield? Also, any advantages or disadvantages to using CV or CC? I have a Bobcat 250NT I will be driving it with. Thanks
Reply:CO2 gas usually gets more penetration than a mix but weld appearance might be flatter and have a little more splatter. CO2 is way cheaper than the mixes. CO2 comes in liquid and a mix is compressed gas. CO2 makes it's own pressure as it changes to gas on release,[around 650 PSI, depending on temp.]. And because it's a liquid becoming a gas it will last a lot longer than a mix.For outdoors it would probably be better for you to use innershield. If you use CV you won't have to use the additional ground clamp to power the drive motor. But you won't notice any weld difference one to the other.
Reply:I would'nt use the CC mode on them, use in CV constant voltage only.
Reply:Most economical and best for outdoor use is to use fluxcore (lincoln nr211mp) with no gas and constant voltage. You still need to hook up the extra work clamp in constant voltage mode to power the feeder, at least I did when I used a friend's Suitcase 12VS with my XMT in constant voltage mode. He uses it with a Bobcat 225NT and connects the clamp too. Without the extra clamp, the feeder motor had no power.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
