Hello everyone, Ive got a couple questions for you all. First off , My name is Joe And I'm a 43 year old General Contractor in Seattle, WashingtonI'm pretty limited in Welding experience, A couple of years ago i got a small 110v MiG welder just to fix or build small stuff around the house and what not. And I've gotten pretty good with it. And I've also found out to how limited the unit is. but other than that not allot of hands on with much else, So last week a Friend of mine was cleaning out his garage and asked me if i wanted a welder that was in his way. he didn't know much about it, and had never used it. And He said it was Free. so i go to pick it up and what he gives me is this Miller Regency 250 CV-DC Power Source. No Leeds or anything else other than what I'm assuming is the polarity wire hanging out the front. and a cart to wheel it around on.So after looking into it a bit more. It looks to me its going to cost allot to get this thing up and going? I believe what it is that I'm looking for is 1) a Miller CV-DC wire feeder. 2)a Controller for the feeder? Or is this a strictly Arc welding power source? If so what do i need to get it set up for arc weldingCan i use other brands? If not, What models are compatible with the Regency 250?Can anyone tell me a bit more about this unit, and whether or not this might be a good 2nd machine for the occasional welder. or some tips on what i should or shouldn't run with this Power source? Thanks allot for the forum, I'm sure ill think of a few more questions later, but for now that's all. Joe
Reply:you can use any of miller's stand alone wire feeders on that power sourcehttp://www.millerwelds.com/pdf/spec_sheets/DC12-6.pdfI would look around for a Used miller 22a wire feeder for itMiller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
Reply:Well thats good news, thanks for the reply. Is the controller also needed or is that just part of the feeder.? Joie
Reply:You should be able to get a ground lead and working lead with clamp and electrode holder and get straight into stick welding for not much cash. Less than $60 for a basic set up, more if you want longer leads. Also maybe a few more $$$ if you need to get a 240V plug in installed. BTW, I think when you mentioned arc welding, you were referring to stick welding, but MIG and TIG are also forms of arc welding, so you have already been arc welding for a few years now you just didn't know it. Give it a shot you might fall right in to stick welding now that you know you are already experienced at arc welding. This would be the cheapest route to go to put this machine in use if everything is OK with the machine.Last edited by Bistineau; 06-26-2012 at 08:51 PM.

Reply:thank you all very much for your replies. Sorry i was thinking that id get an email telling me theres a response to this posting. My bad,But yes the Regency power source is CV .And Ive made an adapter cord to plug into to test the unit. and It appears to work. or at least the power light comes on and there is some sound as it starts up.Ive been looking around and might have found a millermatic S52E wire feeder with tweco gun and the leads. for $250. |
