I have an opportunity to sell my MM250 for $1000 and buy a MigMaster 250. I have never been overly impressed with my MM250 and although it meet my needs I have always found it challenging at best with regards to dialing it in for a perfect weld.  I had a Hobart BetaMig 250 that was awesome but I sold before getting parts became an issue. Has anyone used both of these machines and what are your thought on the MigMaster 250?
Reply:If its an older ESAB MM250 they are awesome.  Really nice welds and 24 overlapping voltage settings...  I have seen posts here saying the new ones are not as good as the old models. I had an Ltec MM250.   Very soft and smooth arc....Last edited by soutthpaw; 06-23-2012 at 01:01 PM.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:I bought an L-tech migmaster 250 right before ESAB bought them out.  That was back in 94 I think.   Looking back I wish I hadn't been young and dumb and needed the money.   It was an excellent machine wish I still had it.Miller BobcatHarris cutting outfitMiller spectrum 625 plasmaVariety of shopmade tools

Reply:One of the units at work is a Millermatic 250. I own an ESAB Migmaster 250. Between the two the Migmaster is easily my favorite unit to run. The Migmaster produces a softer smoother arc then the Millermatic 250. The weld puddle wetout with the Migmaster is much better too.The only advantage I can give to the Millermatic 250 would be ease of finding consumables. To make it easy for me to pick up contact tips on the weekend, if I need them, I set my Migmaster 250 up with an Alpha 2 Binzel gun that allows me to use Tweco 11 contact tips. The local ACE hardware and WILCO farmer store both stock .023 - .045 Tweco/Binzel style contact tips in the Forney brand.Scott Gross welding supplies is an on-line source for ESAB drive rolls and guide tubes. I have a healthy supply of .030 and .035 contact tips for the 15' Gunmaster 250 gun that ESAB supplied with the Migmaster 250, so I have looked to see if you can get the ESAB contact tips from Scott Gross. I suspect you though. Since I don't use the Gunmaster 250 that often I don't know about the availability of gun liners through Scott Gross too.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
Reply:I have used several of both and like them both.  I prefer the esab and feel it is the best in it's class with the possible exception of the newer 275.  I own an ltec 250 and installed a profax 250 whip on it.  I can use the tweco consumables found everywhere and they are very cheap.  Though I prefer a bernard whip, I opted for cheap this time since I am the only one using this machine.  If it were to be used by a bunch of monkey hands I would go for the bernard as it is nearly indestructable. Or, if it were going on a suitcase feeder I would use bernard.  but to sit in my shop and only be used by me and a select few then tweco will do.I don't much understand the notion of local availability.  If I had something that wasn't local then I would order enough to stock up.  such as I have on the drive rolls.  I have two extra of each set.  I also purchase several of the items that I might need on the chance that if there is a failure, then I will not be stranded.  The guy around the corner only buys a couple tips at a time is always coming down to buy some from me on the weekend.  I have told him to buy two packs of 25 and be done with it.  when you open the last pack replace the spare.  I have also think he is too hard on his tips but hey we all have something to improve on.
Reply:Nice to see some other ESAB fans here.    I would say x2 on the Bernard Q series gun.  Hence why I have a spare Profax 350 gun for sale (uses standard tweco tips).     I sold a couple of my machines and tried both guns deciding that I liked the bernard with centerfire tips the best.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Burd, I can't recall ever seeing that, but I could be wrong.  I tend to promote the esab 250 every chance there is a thread.  I have turned a lot men on to it.Brand X,  I purchased the burnback/spot/stitch module for my ltec when I got the machine.  I like it, but it took me quite awhile to remember to use it after the new of it wore off.  I was so accustom to not having it.  I would say the only thing that I think it excells at is the spot welding feature.  I haven't really seen where the stitch welding feature is of great value unless you have automated some aspect of the welding like a fixture or spool.  I would like to have a constant feed (hold/jog) like some of the miller units I weld with.  I love pulling the trigger and not having to keep it held.  oh well.

Reply:I am curious.  Do you use the stitch feature, if so, what do you use it for?
Reply:Never used stitch.  I think guys that do a lot of doing sheet metal probably use it.   Not sure if it works with Al and a spool gun...Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:What about misc parts like feed rolls? I have a Bernard Centerfire mig on my Millermatic 250 and would like to transfer it to the MigMaster....Would that be possible?  I am hoping to close the deal on my new MigMaster on Saturday
Reply:Yes,  I did that with my ESAB euro connection.   That's what the all inernal connector is called. I converted my Bernard Q400 gun from miller to Euro/esab/ltec... the conversion kit was about $60 online new...Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Yeah, I was correct. The spot/stitch/burnback module asking price has increased back up to the insane $330 range. A few years back it dropped down to a more realistic $180 range. I didn't hestitate for a second when I was able to get it for that much of a price reduction.http://www.scottgrossstore.com/servl...-dsh-In/DetailESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
