will take me a few posts to get them all up, but completed. only 14 more to build of the 26 contracted for. 2-10 inch gates in, 6-6 inch gates out to go to the frac tanks. 1-10 inch in the center just in case they drop a pump and have to make 1 pump carry the whole load. The back half had to be removable for seal replacement, yet sit level with the front half. The "trees" on top are for carrying flex pipe with vitriolic ends to connect into the frac tanks. Reply:here are a few more pics of completed and mig like tig welds... all done with 350p and 250x millermatics. Attached Imagesnothing fancy, just a few hot glue guns for metalwww.sicfabrications.com
Reply:Interesting job there. And its so ..... blue!  High-pressure?  As in 100 psi or 500 psi or 5000 psi?  Just curious.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Im sure the work is good quality, but id never want to see those welds on heavy material like that. You've got a 350P, why not just spray down a nice smooth bead.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:Originally Posted by welder_onethe welds were spec'd globular and 5/16 fillet.... everything on this job is spec'd.  you dont wanna see welds like that cause you cant make em like that? ive passed all the unlimited tests welding.... yep, just like that
Reply:Nice work Welder_one.Very neat fit and finish. Thanks for posting it.Well you have to give the people what they want, but I'm surprised to see that they wanted rectangular tube. Any idea why rectangular was spec'd? Is there a clean-out or drain at one end?Good Luck
Reply:Pretty blue. The specs may call for 500psi service but those 150# flanges and B/F valves aren't rated for that.  And I'm with denrep on the square manifold.  If this is a discharge rather than suction manifold, the engineer on the job needs to go back and review his hydraulics basics.  Ever see what happens to a square manifold with flat ends due to a little water hammer?  Square tube tries to get round and the end plates like to blow out at the seam.Still, nice work on your part. Reply:well, it wasnt spec'd true to the word "globular" but spec'd to 200 amps using .035 er70s-6 and c-25 all certed content.... cant reach spray with c-25, so heavy and turbulent globular is it. i could have switched over to pulse, but dont like pulse unless its REAL thin aluminum.i also told the engineer about the hammer effects on the tubing... his reply was to go from 3/8 wall square to 1/2 wall square... the end plates are 1/2 inch as well.... i make about 2.5g per each unit, so who am i to argue? i just build it as they tell me to =)) the pumps that they are using are just simple 10 inch centrifugal semi-trash pumps and they pump water from ponds, streams or other available water sources... its the flow and not the pressure that is the concern. average 200 to 300 barrels of water per minute flow for 24 to 30 hours.... i highly doubt that that style of pump would EVER reach 500 psi... once the water hits the frac tanks, they are under slight pressure, once they hit the frac pumps is when the pressure startsLast edited by welder_one; 09-13-2010 at 05:15 PM.nothing fancy, just a few hot glue guns for metalwww.sicfabrications.com

Reply:As long as the customer is smiling and happy with the work, that is all that matters! Were these units pressure tested?
Reply:yes, they were tested. dead heading 2 10 inch pumps against it is all tho...nothing fancy, just a few hot glue guns for metalwww.sicfabrications.com
Reply:There are some that worry about underbead shape and pen profile with spray on rounded edges or small J grooves. They want that deep "U" shape penetration and are less concerned with the edge wash. The fear is lamination tear or weak grain boundry failure.Somebody letting you use your own technique for testing is not your average bear in semi-auto mig, that's kinda cool no matter the reason. Maybe a real bull of the woods?Matt
Reply:Im with duane on this one, those are 150# flanges and valves it can't be too high of pressure, lol. We normally hydro test 150#ers at 1.5x the rating (225 lbs) just to add a little safety factor, but 500 lbs too high. Will they leak at 500 lbs? I dunno, I have seen 150# flanges ran at much higher than 150# (but not close to 500) but if you have one incorrect make up it will rear its ugly head.
Reply:Interesting....We build those same exact manifold trailers all the time... built a bunch of them.  We have built them out of square and round.  We have been building them round lately, they look better and are "stronger".Ive never seen one with a "tongue" tube the whole length of the manifold and a butterfly valve in the center... Pretty cool.  Ours are always strait with no center valve... tongues only go back 6' overlap. Also im not sure what the heck this 500PSI is all about... a manfold will never anything even close to that. They are LOW PRESSURE..... and 1/2" wall thickness ... talk about overkill... ours are always 1/4" or 3x8" x12"x12" square tube or sch 40 -12" pipe.... which is plenty.  Ive never seen a manifold made from anything heavier... nothing wrong with overkill, just unnessesary expense.Anyway, looks like you did a nice job...I always enjoy seeing other people who build the same type of things as us and discussing them.Ill try to post some pics of the different ones ive made.Last edited by C6.7weldrig; 09-14-2010 at 11:41 PM.Steve1946 Shorthood  -  1958 Blackface  -  1962 Redface  -  1967 Redface  -  1968 Redface -  1970 Blackface  -  2005 300D -  2008 Vantage 300  -and a ton of other welding stuff
Reply:10" trash centrifugals? Try 50 psi max. That square crap will stand up to it all day long. Should have been done in pipe, not square tube, but I'm just the third guy to say it.We want to see something like this in the signature line:Lincoln Ranger 250Miller Auto-Darkening Elite HelmetLincoln 100Lincoln MigMiller Spectrum 375Craftsman 8 galllon gas powered compressorLongevity 200amp Tig Welder LT-200D
