I built this trailer from a stripped down travel trailer, and put plywood in pieces on it, as it was a 15 travel trailer with about a 12' deck once stripped down, but the old plywood does not seem to be holding up well, was thinking I should put planks on it, it is usually used for ATV's so what width and thickness planking would be best to use.Any input, I figure planking would be nicer, and would be able to run the full length instead of pieces of plywood.
Reply:If you have enough support for it I think 5/4 x 6 double treated decking would make a good floor for the uses you're talking about.  I have a 6x10 trailer with that type floor that's well over ten years old and sits outside full time. Wood still looks good.
Reply:I've got a 5' x 10' with pressure treated 2x8s on it.  I took them off, painted 'em with solid Olympic deck stain all over, hit the top faces with truck bed liner, and they've been holding up nicely.  Like hvw said, just get something thick enough based on your distance between supports.
Reply:I built mine out of an old Coleman pop up (6x11 when finished) and used 2x8 treated  dimensional lumber from your local Home Depot or Lowes.AHP 200xMiller Trailblazer 251 NTMiller Legend AEAD-200-LEEastwood MIG-175Eastwood 40A Plasma CutterDillon Mk 5 OA setup
Reply:My 20' flatbed uses 2x6's for the decking.  Some have warped over the years but overall they are doing well in the weather.  2x4's may not warp as much.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Sizes from 2x6 - 2x10 will work depending on the width of your trailer, don't forget to leave a small gap between each one. Fasten with these http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/116/3022/=8y9x84 in the 5/16" size, the pre-drill size depends on the steel thickness. You can get by with the 1/4" if you want but you will run the risk of them breaking sooner from stress.Post up some pics when done.Ken
