So I built an upper frame out of 2x2 tubing in a rectangle, I managed to keep it flat. Well, I welded 3x3x1/4 legs on, and managed to warp the thing so it's warped diagonally now (think tripod)How can I fix this before putting the 1/2" plate on top? o/a torch ?Hobart EZ-Tig newbie.
Reply:Check diagonal measurements. Then use a come along and torch to relax it into place. Be gentle, it will go the opposite way if your not. Ratchet straps work too.Miller bobcat 225g  - spoolmatic 1Mm250 - 30a spoolMiller spectrum 375Thermal arc 95 Everlast Ex 250As the boiler turns, these are the days of our lives
Reply:Ditto, you can also use a zip wheel to cut a relief, then weld it up if it is real bad.

Reply:Heya chimmike.Given the difficulty of knowing what resources you have at hand at your shop, it's hard to contribute anything but an example. I figured there *must* be something in the forum on straightening since it's and integral part of the fabrication process...so here's a good one:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...g+warped+frameThis is a good fly-on-the-wall thread where 2 seasoned guys discuss what Tom Lipton calls 'The Lost Art of Flame Straightening.' in his book METALWORKING: SINK OR SWIM. It's also mentioned in that thread. A good read and often on sale at MSC. It was worth it for me not just for the tips but for the shop tales.-- EssieAbraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is by far the worst thing to ever happen to President Lincoln in a theater
Reply:how bad is it? If you're only talking by about 1/4" or something, just shim the high leg. I always put levelling bolts on the feet, level the table and add the top. Shim the top plate if needed and stitch it in place. Sometimes its just not worth the bother chasing down and fixing the little things in the grand scope of it.Thermal Arc Fabricator 2101970 Lincoln RedfaceMiller 150 STLStill need a Syncrowave and a plasma and a milling machine and a lathe and a bigger shop and a....
Reply:How thick is the tubing that warped?  It's hard to say much without seeing it, but -Usually, you can just bend it back.  Use your weight, a pivot point (or a few -- to bend it gradually).  Leverage will take care of the rest.  You can also use a stronger piece of steel (like a pillar) and clamps (and a few blocks to accommodate the spring-back.A come-along could be used to bring the legs closer together, bending the top crossmembers back to straight.Jack OlsenMy garage website
