I have 3 pieces of 2 1/2" by 24" pipe. I need to make a miter at each end so I can weld into a perfect triangle, any help would be appreciated?
Reply:You need to get 3 cases of beer, 12 boxes of saltine crackers, woodworkers pencil, a standard yellow 28ft tape measure and a 1999 Ford Explorer. Drink 1 case of beer. Take the woodworkers pencil and mark lines at 27.6mm, 19.63mm and 11mm with the standard yellow 28ft tape. Cut the pieces and mix them equally into the saltine cracker boxes. Drink 2nd case of beer. Drive the Ford Explorer down Route 11 at 55.5 mph. At mile markers 11, 16, 79,102 throw the saltine cracker boxes out the window in equal increments at each mile marker. Drink last case of beer and then go to my Uncle Teds house and he will have perfect triangles waiting for you. Sorry to be an a$$ but with the minimal information you provided it is hard to make suggestions.What is this for?What kind of tools do you have?What is your definition of "perfect"? (Perfect angles, perfectly straight legs?)Do you have a fixture?What welding process are you using?

Reply:An isosceles triangle having three 60 degree interior angles or a right triangle having one 90 degree?I'm guessing the former since you said "perfect."60/2 = 30 degree cut on the ends provided they are all of the same length. Hope you have a means to index the pipe so that the cuts are on proper plane.
