So Tuesday I picked myself up a used Speeder 7x12 bandsaw after work. Had to drive 6 hours round trip to get it, but it seemed like a steal of a deal. $200 - new they seem to be $1000 or more around here, and they don't come up for sale used very often. I tried it out Wednesday after work, quite disappointing. 1.5" sq tube (125 wall) and was out of square by 1/8" (top to bottom). So I started taking it apart, I'm thinking the main shaft is worn. We'll see. A new blade and some adjustments, I'm thinking I'll get it good as new. After work today, I stopped by the LWS and picked up some fittings to install the gas solenoid on my XMT (which came in on the weekend), some A size fittings for my Smith Airliner (which I got off ebay some time ago, and have been dying to play with), and a collet for my tig torch.I proceeded to connect the argon to the newly installed solenoid, and the collet in the torch. But dangit, my tungsten is 3/32, not 1/16 like I had convinced myself I had! Sadly, no tig tonight...Alas, I can still have my giggles if I hook up the airliner before dark I think to myself. Grill some steak as I'm cuttin' and torqin', have a bite or 2, and light em up...I have to say, if the standard victor / harris / whatever is a "gas axe", this airliner is like a whittling knife that just fits in my hand like (insert favorite metaphor here). Cut a few squiggly lines, make an ugly puddle with the welding tip, and its dark.Am I the only one that gets this exited with this kind of thing? Guys I work with are making fun of me, and sometimes I wonder...  JasonXMT 350 MPA Dynasty 280DXSuitcase 8RC / OptimaSpoolmatic 30AThermco Ar / C02 mixerAssorted O/A gear

Reply:Man, you're not alone. I've been  that way all my life. Any time I get a new tool, car, girlfriend, etc. I'm up all night playing with it.I wasted a full 8 hour day and a good bit of scrap the day I got all the parts for my scratch start tig set up.I slept in the truck in the driveway the night I brought home my (long gone) '73 C10 SWB with a 454/turbo400.I'm still all about "sleeping" with my wife and I wore the new off of that a long time ago.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
