I just saw a guy on TV that was arc welding (you could clearly see that), but in his left hand he was applying what looked like a filler rod. What's up with that? He was tapping the arc rod like bzzz-bzzz-bzzz-bzzz while applying filler?
Reply:I have seen it done to fill gaps on hand railing in the field. You knock off the flux on the second rod and then feed it into the puddle to reduce the heat and fill the gap. We are not talking quality here ... just getting it done.
Reply:I've done that in a pinch... though I do not recommend anyone do it on something critical.
Reply:Cool, can you tell me more about the proceedure? I wonder if I could have used it on the fence hole I was working on last week.
Reply:I just bump my amps about 5% or so and stuff another rod into the puddle like I'm tig welding. I've used tig filler, rods with the flux on and off. There isnt a really a definitive method to doing this as far as I know since it's kind of an "oh $#^&" fix.
Reply:Neat. I think I will try it tomorrow.
Reply:Used it before around the house, on rusted ductwork/skin casing etc. Don't let that Edison Medicine get on you though ! This good hot weather sure makes for interesting things with electricity !Have a nice dayhttp://www.weldingdata.com/ |
