I'm a bachelors student at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Went in today to 5 brand new Lincoln 455M/STT machines. I'm really looking forward to trying Surface Tension Transfer. Anyone have any experience using it? Opinions?Just thought I'd share.  Attached Images

Reply:Awesome is a pretty good term for the shop. It was just built and this it the first year of classes being held in it. Seven or so isles of welding booths(18 booths) each with its own designated process, a large CNC cutting table, three robots,an abundance of knowledgeable instructors,  I couldn't ask for a better environment to learn in. I just love what I do and the technology and experience available to me and my peers is simply phenomenal. PCT is a great school that consistently produces industry ready welders.I'll try to get some more pictures tomorrow (here are some from the grand opening) of the shop and what I'm currently working on ,1/2" plate, 3G open root, TIG, lots of walking the cup.Attached are some photos from the dedication ceremonies a month or so ago.1. Reply:Wait, I can go to school to watch robots weld??!
Reply:STT is a neat process.  Many power piping companies now are exploring its use (and have done so successfully) for P91 root pass welding, particularly on closure spools where back purge is not an option.  Fluor has had great success in particular.  Most of its past failures and bad reputation were due to inadequate welder training.  Lincoln is working on adapting the STT module to the BUG-O orbital system so you can easily run an automatic root pass with STT and fill with either FCAW or GMAW(-P) processes.BTW, glad to see another Penn College student on board!  Graduated with my BS there a few years back.  The OLD shop was a wet dream for most fabricators, the new one is outstanding!  Be sure to tell Bob Vaughn that a certain Welding Engineer down in North Carolina says hello and will get in touch soon Last edited by Supe; 10-29-2010 at 02:26 PM.

Reply:**** that makes me jealous just looking at it.... the booths aren't really booths, they're more like small apartments good lord."...My pappy was a pistol I'm a son of a gun...""...God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy..."
