I have alot of steel just rusting away so I decided to make some time to use some of it up. I wanted to make a cylinder tote for a couple of reasons. 1. to lift the cylinders onto a truck with a machine instead of my back. 2. to secure the cylinders while driving to a job. I can tie this down much easier than a cylinder, and the cylinders will be secured to this. And 3. to use on a wrecking job to secure them and hang a torch. ( I haven't finished it, I want to add a hose/torch hanger). This is mostly 3/16" T1 drop offs from my buddies old fab company. Most people would scrap this stuff, but I guess my old wrecker buddy has rubbed off on me. He refers to this kind of stuff as "wrecking welding", "use what ya got, burn it hot and fast, it ain't pretty, but it gets the job done". I did at least grind everywhere there are welds. But 7018 runs ALOT better on fresh steel!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:What no I beams?  Just kidding Stick man! Looking good. Much better than the crappy carts you can buy(that you cant lift!). We built about the same thing for our trucks. Screw lifting cylinders into the truck, we lift the hole thing in/out.

Reply:Originally Posted by Stick-manSpeaking of carts, I have a rear axle from a '95 olds cutlass ciera I scrapped for my brother. I am going to make a cart using those spindles and rims & tires. I would have built it already, but I cant decide if I want to go all the way and do the double baffle "osha" BS thing or just make it with a single divider like I did this tote.

Was great for moving the bottles around the yard.I was going to scrap it but things have changed and I am thinking I could put it to use again.  Planning to replace tires, sandblast and paint.  As well I was going to do a few mods such as weld a plate up the middle with a lifting eye on top like Stick-man did as well as make a folding trailer tongue on the back so I can move it around with my quad.My question is what is meant by "double baffle", haven't heard of this before?
Reply:OSHA changes crap so often I don't know if I should bother. For instance, they just changed the rule about using an air wand with a tow behind air compressor. I built a bunch of 1/2" and 3/4"  pipes with ball valves and now they require a dead man valve. Well you can't buy those at Home Depot. The govt. make it impossible for the little guy to make a buck. And no I do not want to see a worker get hurt, but you can keep making things so safe until it is not practical to do a job anymore. I hate "what if's"."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Ditto! I am right there with ya man. Its getting pretty bad.
Reply:I'm not sure I get it?  RU saying a fella is allowed to use brand new steel on a project, and not have to go out to the scrap heap and cut off a piece of something and then sandblast and grind every stinking inch of the stuff in order to weld and then paint it???  Nah, can't be, This is just a thread to pull our leg rightI did that this morning, I drug out an old plow disc from a big pile, I cut and ground off the tops  of  6 big bolts holding it to some heavy joint thingie, then I penetrating oiled it up and beat on it till the pieces seperated... AhAHHa, now I can go over and grind awhile on it where I'm gonna' weld a pipe to it... U get the idea... Reply:I got a stupid question here, the OSHA standards would only apply if you had a business right? And were using the OA tanks in that application not if you had a set of tanks stored at home for hobby use??????  Right ??????
