I started in on some rails this week (I'll post pictures when I get some of them done).  I got tired of trying to mark the pipe so I could do opposing bends.  So I slapped this clamp together. Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Reply:I made some more progress on the hand rails.  There are 2 different customers that I am working on.  One set of rails is for a ramp and 3 sets are for a local city park.  Because all of the feet are the same, I plasma cut a jig that I can draw a circle though onto the pads for centering purposes.  The 3 set rails have a few variances, but 2 sets are more or less the same. So I mocked one up on the floor, threw it on the table and stood pieces of flat bar on end so align identical pieces for tacking.  Throughout all the builds, I use the alignment rings for easy fitup.  I dont bother with the wedges that came with them.  Also, we have a notcher that fits in the press for simple coping of the pipes. And the motor project can be found in this thread: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=13284 Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Reply:We got the rails back from powder coat and installed them in the park today.  The install went without a hitch with the only exception of lighting a little bark dust on fire from cutting the stud heads off with a cutoff wheel. I'm glad my math worked out okay with the assistance of autocad.  There were quite a few angles to deal with. The rails that drop off quite a ways, lead into the future playground area, which will be filled with barkdust 12" deep. Reply:How does the notcher work? Does it slide into the pipe and shear through half and then flip it around or do you slide the pipe into it and it cutts the hole thing all at once? If it's the second way how does it not crush or deform the pipe? And just one more quick question since I find it really neat did you make the notcher or buy it ?The rails look really good that looks like it would have taken alot of careful planing to get it all nice and right the first time. Good work
Reply:You rest the pipe on the cradle and slide it over the round piece.  Push down on the assembly that holds the found piece and it sheers the end off, then you rotate the pipe and it does the other side. The cradle keeps it from deforming.  We have a setup for 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" pipes.  Here's a drawing I found online:http://www.projecttoolanddie.com/Pro...otching+Units/Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Did you make the intake that is on the SBC in the background?  Any more pix of the intake?  Man, that might look cool on the street rod!
Reply:Yeah, the whole build can be found in this thread: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=13284Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Man, you got me on that one!  What a great idea.  I thought it was some sort of top secret sbc project.  I saved that thread!
Reply:I know this is kinda an old thread.  But I was bidding on another rail job with the same configuration as this one.  We charged about 62 a foot, powder coated and installed for this park job.  The one I bid on today is much straighter, so I went with 60 a foot.  What do you guys charge for rails like these?Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
