I am trying to tig a 316L pipe to an A182 F11 Chrome Moly Flange. Does anybody know which filler wire would be best. I was using ER309, but didn't have much luck. Also, does anybody know any tricks to welding these materials together? Thanks in advance for any help.My Babies:MillerMatic 185Thermal Arc 300SHobart StickMate AC/DC 235/160Dalex Werke Spot WelderOh and the wife and kids are important too!
Reply:Give ERNiCr-3 a try. Of course, you have to take the intended use and design into consideration, so that is in no way my professional opinion.

Reply:Depending on thickness, you may need pre-heat and a post weld heat treat. You will get a better chemistry match to the 316 if you use 309Mo or 309LMo filler metal depending on strength requirements, althogh It has been my experience that the common 308, 309 and 316 filler metals are dual certified to the straight grade and the l grade. |
