Trying to pass my 2g bend test for the shipyard I work for. WPS says to have it at 27 V and 320 AMPS. We can have a total of four cover passes. How do you get rid of the undercut on that last cover pass?
Reply:What shield gas are you using? What size wire? Undercut is most often a parameter issue. With .045 wire and 100% CO2 I'd recommend 25.3 V and 275 in/min, for example, let me know if you're using .052" or .064".The second thing is knowing how to "line up" your last pass. You need to have a consistent "valley" to push the weld into. the previous pass should also lie above the surface of the base metal. If it's not consistent, break out your grinder and gouge it out a little bit.Thirdly, your plate may be too hot. Wait about 20 minutes for it to cool down before you run the last pass.Last edited by Joshfromsaltlake; 08-01-2012 at 05:16 PM.
