SWMBO, and I, took a trip to Oklahoma City today.  On the way we saw a really cool cantilevered roof at this place that sells gourmet soda and greasy food (city folks really seem to like the place)  This is located on Route 66 just East of Oklahoma City.A customers car in the lot was a real eye opener  It's a real beauty.  And I decided to get artsy fartsy with it and the huge steel "coke bottle" in front of the place.  He passed us on the Interstate some time later.  Absolutely beautiful sound coming from the pipes Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I like the look of that roof, kinda looks as if it defies logic why it should be standing. Wouldn't like to see it with a snow load of any kind tho . The car isn't too bad neither, a Cobra?....Mike
Reply:Looks pretty neat... But I wonder how long it'd last with the wind we get around here :-D[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
Reply:Hi, Samm,               Loved the roof, Can definitely see your  feminine side showing through, no doubt with SWMBO's good influence. I'v got a cobra just like that one with same side pipes and gorgeous exhaust rumble but unfortunately mine is only a replica and not the real thing but is still great to drive,.Lincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE  GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.

Reply:You probably helped pay for that. The man who owns it also owns Cheasapeak Oil company. He would also thank you if you filled your car up with gas before you left.

Reply:My first thought was what about the wind load.  My second thought was about the snow load.  I would imagine that the roof was designed in a way that the sheathing is the weakest part and will fail before the frame.
Reply:Good lookin' out Samm.I've been wondering what happened to the old drive-in screen. If the wind doesn't get it that'll make a perfect weldor's roof someday.Gordon stephenson - Looks good! Are you running a Buick mill?!? If it started to whine, my right hand would probably instinctively reach to grab another cog... and then let myself right out the door. Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 11-22-2010 at 11:17 AM.

Reply:Here is the story behind that "greasy spoon" location. It's actually quite an inetersting read!http://www.architecturalrecord.const...0903pops-1.aspIf a man owes you $1000, that's his problem; If a man owes you a $1 million, that's your problem

Reply:I'll bet that there is more to that roof than meets the eye. It's just not your conventional design is all. I'd also bet that it's built to take a beating or it wouldn't be there. The architect has his reputation hanging out there too. . I'd like to have something like that hangin out and over the front of my shop."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:Cool photos Samm, thanks for posting. I was lucky enough to go for a ride in a replica cobra once. If memory serves, it was a track called Nelson ledges in Ohio. The fella who owned the car built the entire thing  himself. It was a friggin work of art. He used a nascar block of some kind, that was a stressed member of the chassis. It had a four speed, and had so much power, that once he got rolling he just modulated the throttle in the top pocket. He did downshift to third for a super tight 90 deg turn each lap. What a ride! He was easily the fastest car on the track, and was in the company of some very well prepped Porsche's, among others. They could not beat him on the turns, and he could destroy them on the straights. I wish I had pics of the car to share. I think the man said he was a machinist. He'd made a blue oval logo that had the script "Ford" for the car... but it said "Fred"... his name. Very subtle, and classy. Most folks didn't notice it. That was a nice memory Samm. Thanks again for the post.

Reply:Great looking overhang roof. The sheeting must be pretty light to help reduce load; but that thing is deceptively strong.....those are some BIG downtubes that counter the overhang. I am pretty certain they are stuck to an awful stout footing as well. The cars????? Very nice.........And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
