I want to be able to weld steel, stainless and aluminum and am interested in buying a machine that can do it all . Do I need an ac/dc machine to be able to weld aluminum and steel or can I attach spool guns or whatever. I am a welder but I weld steel on buildings, stick and flux core. I think I want to be able to weld stainless counters, right up to 1/2 inch aluminum. Is this possible with one machine ?
Reply:It sure is possible, but it won't be cheap. You'll certainly want A/C for aluminum and D/C for steel.
Reply:Ahhhhh I think you need to do some basic research on welding in general. Kind of scary actually, thinking about the whole building welding thing. Anyway friend here is the lowdown, for the most part, you "can" weld any material with any process. Some are more effecient or do a better job than others. Pick up some reading material like the Miller education pack, or geesh even a beginners welding book. Then YOU make the decision.
Reply:You'll pay a premium price for a ac/dc welding machine that will weld steel, stainless and aluminum.Your best to go with a Mig welder which is DC only. That's your cheapest rout but you will need different shielding gasses to weld the materials you want.If you want to spend more $$, an ac/dc stick/tig combo unit with high frequency will weld the material you want but it is not going to be cheap.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
