i have a ranger 9 welder . i have 53 volts coming out of the 110 volt outlets and a little spark at the welding rod. i thought i blew a wire off while blowing out the dust. looks like all connnected. can someone help me?
Reply:Sounds as if you may be getting only flashing voltage (+/- 12VDC) at the rotor brushes or the slip rings are dirty/tarnished.Clean the slip rings with fine sandpaper (320grit) and check the DC voltage at rotor brush leads #219A (-) and 200A (+) with Fine Current control set to maximum and engine running at weld speed. Reply:i bought it 2 weeks ago and had been welding great. took the covers off, paint them blew out dust. the one thing i am concerned with is the small cover by the oil filter has a small aluminun square bracket of some sort. it has three wires hooked to it on the back side. what it that?

Reply:the no. i see are.........10539-u1980516171. i cleaned the slip rings and brush's. worked great. put covers on and low volts/no low arc again. cleaned them again and still nothing. has to be something simple.

Reply:ever now and then mine will stop generating, and if I click the switch (welding terminals remotly controled) a few times it will usaly come on, when I got it that switch was replaced, and some times jsut cycling the other contorls (my guess is dirty contacts some where),

Reply:i had it loaded for the repair shop. wanted to try farmerboys deal. and i cycled the switch's, fine tuning knob. and it is welding again. so unloaded it.lol. thanks farmerboy and duaneb55. great job.
