i need some help arc welding 6 g pipe! First i have to weld lean on something. i cannot weld not holding or bracing on something. is that a problem? Second with the pipe in the 6g position what kind of motion should i use for the hot pass. should i just run a straight bead in the middle? on the cover pass what kind of motion or techniques should i use. i currently try to weave it but on this 6g handle its always run down meaning most of the weld is on the bottom and i dont know why because i stay two second on top and one second to bottom but i just cant get it right. please guys help me i want to go do my test
Reply:I added you on skype.
Reply:Well the first rule is alway's GET COMFORTABLE. Leaning on something to steady yourself is good sense. Get the workpiece at a heighth that is comfortable. Make a brace to steady yourself. Use a vise grip or whatever is handy. As far as motion we need to know what rod you are using? If XX10 is this uphill or down? A little more info would help.
Reply:Put in the root then open up a V grove to get all the wagon tracks and porosity out from 5p+.Run your hot pass a little hotter and run a small weave wider than the root. What size pipe are you using? When doing the fill and cap run stringer beads. I always use a tillman arm pad when going 6-3-12 side. Put my arm on the pipe so I can see above the puddle and stay steady. You can also use the arm pad to rest on the pipe when going from 6-9-12. You gotta be steady and comfortable.
Reply:thanks for that man. i am doing 6 inch pipe. 6010 1/8 root and 7018 3/32 fill and cap.
Reply:I just got my 6g friday. The only thing I did different was used a 3/32 root opening. It come out like cheese take your time. I also used a little isolation motion on my hot to prevent burn thru. Try not to put to much pressure on what ever your bracing on. I you have to move its alot easier when your barley resting. Good luck!
