Just started to walk the cup on 6 inch carbon steel looking for some beginner tips, anything that can help.
Reply:Keep pressure on the cup light, kept that nice short arc and also keep pressure on the filler wire.
Reply:yep, keep a light touch. You'll find yourself wanting to tighten up on your grip and use extra pressure against the cup, but fight those urges. Relax and let it flow. Also, if the pipe gets too hot, the cup will have a tendancy to slip.
Reply:Wrap the torch hose around your arm and move it out the way before you strike up.For practice walking the cup get a foot long 6" pipe and practice with your right and swap over and use your left.Imagine moving a 55gallon drum (Tilt cup and move to your right, Tilt cup and move to your left and keep going.
Reply:Is this a 100% TIG joint (root / fill / cap)?If so, we'll take you from the prep and fit.Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
