I am building a small welding trailer with a gas powerd welder, compressor and want to have a small work table. The trailer is on two wheels and a rubber wheel. Should the welder be grounded to the trailer and then do I need a ground rod for earth ground?.
Reply:Welder Bonded to Trailer or Truck frame. It is not really Grounded but means the same thing with Portable Power Grounding with Portable Power is accomplished by attaching all of the non-current carrying metal parts- The Trailer-- of a system together and connecting to the same systems ground at the source of power- Generator/Welder (neutral and ground). The ground can be the earth or in the case of portable generators, the frame of the generator which will serve as a large conducting body that serves in place of the earth. You do not need to drive a ground rod either for general work, back up power is a different scenario.Last edited by Broccoli1; 09-14-2009 at 04:57 PM.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Thank you for the response your answer was clear and to the point. I will take the ground lug of the gas engine welder to the trailer. Thanks again sometimes I think I just over analyze.
Reply:I have mine grounded just the way Ed described. The installation section of the machine's owner's manual has directions and pictures describing the same procedure.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
